Hi and welcome! I’m Brittany, the owner and creator of Hey Flavor! I can’t begin to sum up how 31 years of life derived me here, in this space, addressing you, but maybe this one line can help you understand: I am a certified, one thousand percent foodie! I love all things food! If you’re here, I’m guessing that you may love food like I do!
So a little about my life, I was born and raised in Chicago where food is king! From deep dish pizza, to hotdogs to the crispiest fried chicken you would ever taste in your life! Sadly, I wasn’t able to devour these delicacies until I was an adult. Why? Because my grandma was the Queen of Southern Cooking and didn’t believe in making a habit of eating out. But I was okay with that because my grandmother Thelma Lee Loveall could COOK her behind off. Her upbringing in Mississippi taught her well!
I grew up learning tricks of the trade from grandma! Learned that if she sent you to the store and you brought back anything other than pure vanilla extract, there would be some problems! No imitation in this household! But most importantly, I learned the essence of flavor. Grandma’s food was never dull, never boring and always flavorful. I get it from my granny!
Grandma’s kitchen was pivotal in my upbringing. No matter what dysfunction my family was experiencing, her food had the power to bring my whole family together! So those are the recipes I want to share with you. The ones that have the same power and that are vibrantly flavorful. The ones that make you sit back and think of your own grandma.
So now that you get a hint of my love for food, let me share with you what I do and why I started my blog. I currently work in the aviation industry. I’m a numbers girl, majored in Finance and Communications at Florida State University and by the way of many ventures (I would share but I don’t want to bore you here) I ended up as a Senior Analyst in Revenue Management at a legacy airline. My field has allowed me to see the world! I travel for free or next to nothing! Travelled all the way to Tokyo for $35! Can’t beat that! Travel is definitely a passion of mine, so is cooking and personal finance. Blogging is an outlet I will use to focus on and learn more about my passions while sharing it with others! My motto is all about spending time doing the things that brings you joy! Here, we will talk everything cooking related, from recipes to cookware.
When I’m not cooking and traveling the world, I’m hanging out with my fiance Lance, who is the biggest sports fan I know and happens to be my personal food tester (he loves that job) and my dog Vanity! She’s a shorkie and has one of the funniest personalities I’ve ever seen. Both are sweethearts!
